Adventist woman injured in California shooting speaks of Jesus’ return
A Seventh-day Adventist believer who miraculously escaped a mass shooting in southern California with nonlife-threatening head, arm, and leg injuries says she hopes the tragedy will somehow alert people that Jesus is coming soon. Amanda Gaspard was overseeing a conference and holiday luncheon organized by the San Bernardino County Health Department at a social services center in San Bernardino, California, when two assailants went on a shooting rampage Wednesday, killing at least 14 people and injuring 17.
ADRA Brazil responds to the worst environmental disaster in Minas Gerais
The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Brazil has mobilized efforts to help meet the needs of more than a quarter of a million people in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais who are without drinking water as the state continues to face what national leaders are calling an “environmental catastrophe.”
In Cuba, Adventists take part in international fair during church’s annual lay convention
Hundreds of Seventh-day Adventists participated in Cuba’s largest International Agriculture and Cattle Fair last month in Havana. More than 500 health promoters, bible workers, and lay evangelists participated in the international fair as they also gathered for the church’s fourth annual Adventist Bible Workers and Healthy Lifestyle Convention, Oct. 15-28, 2015.
Adventists launch first mobile medical and dental clinic in Jamaica
The Braeton Seventh-day Adventist Church in Central Jamaica is now prepared to take basic medical and dental care to the doorsteps of residents in surrounding communities of the church with the creation of the first Adventist-owned mobile medical and dental clinic to be launched in Jamaica. The church has been helping more than 600 persons through its annual community back-to-school health fair since 2003 and is hoping that with the mobile clinic, the community can be impacted greater.
ADRA Inter-America recognizes partnerships and cites major accomplishments
The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in the Inter-American Division (IAD) celebrated its progress across the church territory during a recent board meeting to close the previous five-year period. Top Seventh-day Adventist leaders praised the work of ADRA Inter-America and its outgoing director, Wally Amundson, for being instrumental in the 14-year-long partnership with the North American Division’s (NAD) ingathering program, Hope for Humanity, to advance literacy.

Delbert Baker takes reins at Adventist University of Africa
Delbert W. Baker, a veteran Seventh-day Adventist administrator and former general vice president of the world church, has assumed leadership of the Adventist University of Africa near Nairobi, Kenya. Baker said he had accepted an invitation to work as the university’s vice chancellor, a position akin to president, and was moving there with his wife, Susan M. Baker, a physical therapist, educator, and administrator.
In Inter-America, study shows Sabbath School attendance declining, improvements needed
A recent survey conducted by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Inter-American Division (IAD) revealed that there are less church members attending Sabbath School classes and less of those members studying Sabbath School bible guides every week. The main purpose of the survey research was to examine issues affecting nurturing, evangelism, mission, programming and equipping the Sabbath School in the IAD.
Regional conference presidents hold key talks on mission and urban centers
Regional conference presidents and other leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church are studying how they might use health centers, vegetarian restaurants, community services and other outreach methods to expand efforts to share Jesus with urban centers and inner-city residents after holding key talks with General Conference and North American Division leadership.

Pathfinders’ bus crashes after brakes fail en route to Camporee in Central Mexico
Nearly three dozen Pathfinders escaped a bus crash with mostly scratches and bruises thanks to God’s miraculous intervention after their vehicle lost its brakes on a mountainous road en route to a camporee in Mexico, their director said. Director Sergio Cruz Robles described a horrific race down the mountain at 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 13 as the Pathfinders from the state of Michoacan in central Mexico traveled 330 miles (530 kilometers) to the camporee of about 3,300 Pathfinders.
