Inter-America launches the Year of the Pastor ordaining more than 100 ministers

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Inter-American Division launched its Year of the Pastor with the ordination of some 100 ministers during territory-wide coordinated ceremonies across the region on Sabbath, Jan. 17, 2015. Some 26 Adventist ministers from the Dominican Republic were ordained in El Palacio de los Deportes Arena in Santo Domingo--the hub of the live event--where thousands of church leaders and members witnessed the ceremony.

In the Dominican Republic, the Adventist Church celebrates the culmination of evangelistic efforts

There was standing room only as thousands of Seventh-day Adventists from across the Dominican Republic crowded the Palacio de los Deportes in Santo Domingo, to rejoice in their evangelistic efforts as they witnessed hundreds of baptisms and heard top world church leaders speak on Jan. 17, 2015. More than 20,000 people crowded the 15,000-seat auditorium. Some grabbed a spot on the floor, sat on steps, or stood in the hallways while some 15,000 stayed outside to listen in on the live radio broadcast. Many left their hometowns in the middle of the night to get to the auditorium at 6:00a.m., local church leaders said.

In the Dominican Republic, a street is named after Adventist Church co-founder Ellen G. White

The city of La Romana in southeast Dominican Republic yesterday declared it will rename one of its streets after Ellen G. White, one of the founders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The announcement came during a special ceremony held at La Romana’s municipal building. In attendance were the mayor, Maritza Suero, city officials, and Seventh-day Adventist world church President Ted N. C. Wilson.

Top Adventist Leaders Build a Church in the Dominican Republic

The Seventh-day Adventist Church’s 29 top leaders traded their laptops and cell phones for paintbrushes and shovels on Wednesday as they constructed a church building—some for the first time—on the Caribbean island of the Dominican Republic. Ted N.C. Wilson, president of the Adventist Church’s General Conference, led the group of division presidents, general vice presidents and other senior church administrators in taking a break from a weeklong business meeting to assist in the project in the town of La Romana.

In the Dominican Republic, church holds massive evangelistic efforts across the island

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Dominican Republic concluded one of its largest evangelistic efforts ever held in the capital city of Santo Domingo last night. Thousands of people traveling in scores of buses came together at Palacio de los Deportes stadium to listen to Evangelist Mark Finley present the message of hope from Jan. 7-11, 2015. The five-day evangelistic series themed “New Year New Life” drew more than 14,000 every night and gathered thousands more across the island who watched the series on the online in local churches, in homes, or listened on their radios

Adventist Church offers condolences after terrorist attack in Paris

The Seventh-day Adventist Church has sent condolences to France and praised its government for supporting religious freedom after a terrorist attack on a satirical magazine killed 12 people in Paris. “On behalf of the Seventh-day Adventist world church and its president, allow me to convey to you our deepest sympathy in connection with the terrorist attack on the Charlie Hebdo office in Paris on Jan. 7,” the Church said Thursday in a letter sent by John Graz, director of its public affairs and religious liberty department, to French Ambassador Gérard Araud in Washington.

Inter-America to ordain dozens of Adventist ministers across the territory

Dozens of Adventist ministers across the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America will be ordained on Jan. 17, 2015, during territory-wide coordinated ceremonies, which will launch the start of Inter-America’s Year of the Pastor during the next 11 months. More than two dozen ministers will be ordained in El Palacio de los Deportes Arena in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where more than 15,000 church leaders and members are expected to witness the event on Sabbath, Jan. 17. The event will be carried online in Spanish, English and French, beginning at 3:30pm Santo Domingo Time (or 2:30pm Miami Time).

IAD leaders look ahead to the Year of the Pastor and other initiatives

Top Seventh-day Adventist leaders at the Inter-American Division (IAD) began the new year this week reflecting on God’s blessings and trusting in God’s leading for the challenges ahead. The nearly 100 ordained ministers and staff members at the IAD Headquarters in Miami, Florida, looked back at the church’s growth and finances in 2014 and looked ahead to the numerous evangelism initiatives and activities set forth to celebrate the Year of the Pastor—a year designated to celebrate the work of the pastor and strengthen their families—and continue sharing the message of the gospel across the territory.

In Liberia, ADRA distributing $110,000 worth of supplies to Ebola survivors, victims

The Adventist Development Relief Agency is collaborating with a local church in Monrovia, Liberia, to distribute supplies to some 600 Ebola survivors as part of a holiday project, the Daily Observer reported. The Liberian news agency said the distribution of food, chloride and mattresses amounted to approximately $110,000 worth of supplies.

Adventist Church to begin 10 Days of Prayer

Adventists around the world begin 10 days of prayer on Wednesday for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Seventh-day Adventist Church, a relatively young initiative that takes on special significance this year because of the upcoming General Conference session. Modeled after biblical account of Pentecost, when Jesus’ disciples gathered in an upper room for 10 days to wait and pray for the Holy Spirit, Adventists will meet daily in churches as part of the Ten Days of Prayer program from Jan. 7 to 17. In many countries, the meetings take place in the evening and last an hour.

Youth ‘Rattle the World’ by Visiting 100,000 Phoenix Homes

Scores of Adventist young people visited tens of thousands of homes across Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday as they accepted a challenge from their leader, GYC president Natasha Nebblett, to “rattle the world.” The teens and young adults made the annual outing during a five-day conference of GYC, or “Generation. Youth. Christ,” which is themed “At the Cross” and runs through Jan. 4 at the Phoenix Convention Center.
