International Conference Reaffirms God as Creator Through Scientific Evidences

Seventh-day Adventist educators, ministers and administrators from across the Inter-American Division (IAD) reaffirmed their commitment to teach, preach and share the biblical account of the origins of the world and its theological implications during a ten-day Faith and Science Conference held in Montemorelos, Mexico, July 20-30, 2017. More than 500 delegates reviewed scientific evidences with some 35 Bible scholars and scientific experts to expand their knowledge of the natural world to share in classrooms, institutions, churches and around the world.

Sadie McKenzie stood on the porch of her house in a village in the Central American country of Belize. The strangest thing was happening. A young white man walked through an alley toward her. Then he stopped, turned around, and walked away. A few minutes later, the man reappeared and slowly made his way toward her again. Then he stopped, turned around, and walked away. Sadie decided that if he did the same thing a third time, she would stop him and demand to know why he kept turning back.

Good and Bad News About the Biblical Flood

“If you believe in the biblical flood, let me tell you that I have good and bad news for you,” said Loma Linda University Biology and Paleontology Professor Leonard Brand at the beginning of his presentation on that precise topic. Brand is a seasoned researcher in taphonomy—a branch of paleontology that studies the processes of fossilization and geological factors that influence the preservation of fossils. In his discussion, he developed what he had hinted in a previous presentation.

Adventist Hospital Recognized for High-Value Healthcare

Premier Inc., a leading healthcare improvement company, named Florida Hospital DeLand a finalist for the 2017 QUEST® Award for High-value Healthcare for providing outstanding patient care. Only 21 hospitals received this finalist recognition status. These hospitals achieved top performance in any five of the six areas measured in Premier’s QUEST collaborative, including cost and efficiency, evidence-based care, mortality, safety, patient and family engagement and appropriate hospital use.

In Inter-America, Church Strengthens Special Needs Ministries During First Territory-Wide Congress for the Hearing Impaired

More than two hundred deaf persons, interpreters and special needs ministries directors from across the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America gathered for the first territory-wide Congress for the Hearing Impaired. The five-day event, held at Montemorelos Univeristy in North Mexico earlier this month, sought to reassure deaf members and friends that they are valuable to God and the church, and provided training to church leaders on strengthening special needs ministries in churches and communities.

Loma Linda University strengthens health care leadership in Latin America with new certificate program

Educators at the Loma Linda University School of Public Health are working to strengthen the management of Seventh-day Adventist hospitals in Latin America through a healthcare leadership development program that was created to strengthen administrative oversite in the region. A certificate program — which is also sponsored by Adventist Health International, the denomination’s Inter-American Division, and Montemorelos University in Mexico — is focused on healthcare leaders in the region who have backgrounds in business, education, finance or ministry, but lack formal education in healthcare administration.

Faith and Science Conference Begins with a Focus on the Holy Scriptures

Hundreds of Seventh-day Adventist school teachers, university professors and ministers from across the Inter-American Division (IAD) gathered at the opening of a Faith and Science Conference in Montemorelos University in Mexico last night. The event is the most extensive of its kind ever organized in the IAD territory. The international conference brings nearly 400 delegates from Mexico, Central American, the Caribbean and parts of the South American Division for the next 10 days to be reaffirmed on creationism through the study of the Bible and nature.

Inter-America’s 16th Annual ASi Convention set to open in Panama

This year’s Adventist-laymen’s Services and Industries (ASi) Convention promises to gather more than 400 Adventist business owners and professionals from across the Inter-American Division (IAD) territory in Panama City, Panama, Aug. 16-19, 2017. It promises to be the largest ASi convention yet, organizers said. Themed “Committed to Wellness and Service,” the four-day event seeks to inspire and reaffirm ASi chapter members and attendees of their commitment to sharing Christ in their businesses and communities in support of the mission of the church.

They Had Rice and Beans for 50 But They Fed 150

The university teacher gave Kermyt Torres Castellano and the rest of his class a difficult homework assignment in Puerto Rico. Kermyt and his classmates needed to find someone in need and then help that person. Kermyt liked to help people, but he wondered what he could do for his homework assignment. He spoke with several classmates, and they decided to team up to feed homeless people in their town. One student said, “I’ll bring rice and beans.” Another student offered to bring vegetarian meat, and others said they would bring salad and juice.

Stargazing Event Propels Visitors to Bible Studies in Ukraine

Activities organized by an informal stargazing club have led to dozens of people requesting Bible studies in Ukraine. From June 30 to July 2, visitors to a “Generation Strong” event in Teplyk, Vinnytsia Region, answered astronomy quizzes, took part in informative lectures and lined up for telescope observation sessions of the moon, Jupiter, and Saturn. Guests were also provided with science-based facts, many of whom suggest the presence of intelligent design in the universe.
