In Venezuela, Thousands of church members are certified to effectively teach Sabbath School class

More than 4,000 Sabbath School teachers across the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Venezuela received special training last month to become more effective in leading the weekly Bible lesson and engaging members to deepen their knowledge of the Scriptures. Sabbath school teachers received six to 12 hours of intensive training on how to understand the lesson while listening to God, organizing the lesson with an outline format, objective and reviewing Jesus’ method of teaching, finding teaching methods and understanding learning principles.

In Curaçao, church members seek out the elderly in their rural community

In a small picturesque village on the southwest part of Curaçao, a group of Seventh-day Adventists took the time to celebrate some of the oldest members of the rural community after the mass service at the local Catholic Church in Lagun. The church, which reportedly had been experiencing poor attendance, was packed on Sunday, Jan. 15, as 14 villagers 80 years old and up were honored in a special program and presented with a wooden token engraved with a Bible text.

Adventist Youth urged to give blood as part of 2017 Global Youth Day

Young adults in Seventh-day Adventist congregations around the world are encouraged to donate blood as part of the church's March 18, 2017 Global Youth Day. The effort seeks to combine community service with Christian witness. According to a statement from the world church's Youth Department, "There is a lot more to religious faith than simply going to church and listening to sermons. The true practice of religion involves the revelation of God’s love in living out Jesus’ gospel commission."

Followers and fans of the Animal Encounters TV series will recognize the names, “Gabi from Germany, Cassila from Brazil and Kezia from Kenya.” Have you wondered how they’re doing these days and what they’re up to? If you're among those fans, you'll be excited to hear they have decided that, after seven years, it is time for another adventure, and Costa Rica will be the place! There has been a flurry of activity in one of the small offices in the GC building this week, from the general direction of ARtv. Every last little cable, up to the larger pieces of gear, have been labelled and packed into their appropriate hard cases.

Montemorelos University students take second place in national short film competition

A group of students from Adventist-operated Montemorelos University recently obtained second place for their film submitted during the 9th national university Hazlo en Cortometraje, or Do it in Short film, contest held in Mexico City, Mexico. The contest promotes the creation and cinematography training of university students and former graduates by convening them in an annual for short films that propose creative solutions to the social and environmental challenges facing Mexico and the world.

Adventist leaders call for training of next generation of leaders

Seventh-day Adventist world leaders called for the training of a younger generation of leaders to complete the church’s mission of spreading the gospel. About 40 church leaders, including division presidents, university presidents, and senior General Conference officers, spoke about the role of young people at the 10th Global Leadership Summit in Ukraine’s capital, Kiev. The annual event encourages world divisions to provide their members with regular leadership training opportunities.

In Inter-America, Church launches brand new textbooks for hundreds of its Adventist schools

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America recently launched the first of a series of textbooks for thousands of pupils across Adventist schools in the territory. The brand new Spanish language textbooks will be used for first graders in 422 primary schools in the Spanish-speaking countries in the Inter-American Division (IAD).

In Canada, Adventist pastor talks hope to Muslims leaders

A Seventh-day Adventist leader, pastor, and police chaplain in Canada recently had an unprecedented opportunity to witness to Muslims living in a populous area northeast of Toronto. Pastor Mansfield Edwards was a guest speaker in one of the official candlelight vigils convened by the various levels of government on February 1 in the wake of the Quebec City mosque shooting that, according to media reports, left six people dead and at least 19 injured last January 29.

In Japan, Seventh-day Adventist youth revive an “aging” church

A Seventh-day Adventist congregation in the center of Tokyo, Japan, had dwindled to fewer than 10 active members, prompting fears it would be closed. Instead, local leaders of the movement designated the church as the "Setagaya Youth Church," and today, membership is thriving as young adults continue to find nourishment for their faith.

Senate Chaplain Barry Black, Adventist Pastor, keynotes U.S. National Prayer Breakfast

Addressing President Donald J. Trump and a room filled with American political and civic leaders — as well as international leaders including King Abdullah II of Jordan — on Feb. 2 at the 65th National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, U.S. Senate Chaplain Barry C. Black, a Seventh-day Adventist pastor, recalled the motivation his mother gave him to memorize Bible verses, which kindled a lifelong quest to know the Author of those words.

In El Salvador, Adventist Church graduates thousands from its decade-long literacy program

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in El Salvador recently celebrated its decade-long literacy program by graduating more than 500 people who now know how to read and write. The students, mostly adults, smiled big as they held their certificate of completion during a special program held at the Central Adventist Church in San Salvador, on Jan. 17, 2017.
