An Adventist media team in China won third place in a Christian short film competition with an 11-minute movie that tells about a father's ultimate love for his wayward son. The Adventist media team won a bronze eagle award for their film “My Father” at the Chinese Gospel Short Film Competition in Taipei, Taiwan, on August 8. The competition drew 65 films and was sponsored by the Christian Tribune Foundation.
A funny thing happened on the way to the throne the other night. King Nebuchadnezzar’s wig flew off while he ranted at the front of his giant chair. It was an unplanned physical gag that fate handed to actor Bryan Roback on Wednesday night as he sat on a 100-foot-wide stage. He was part of a cast playing to 46,000 people sitting in camping chairs on a field in the middle of Wisconsin. While the mishap didn’t cause Roback to miss a beat—nor his fellow actors, save for a few brief smirks—it got one of the night’s biggest laughs, both from the audience and a few doubled-over actors backstage.
Officials from the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s world headquarters have tapped the director of Information Technology Services of the denomination’s North American Division to serve in a newly created position of Chief Information Officer. Nancy Lamoreaux was appointed by the General Conference Administrative Committee on Tuesday to serve in the new post, in which she’ll oversee a global technology strategy among regional Church entities and institutions, as well as protect online security.
Graduates of Loma Linda University School of Medicine are helping to deliver health care to patients in the midst of the deadly Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Dr. Gillian Seton, a 2008 graduate of Loma Linda, has served since February at Cooper Adventist Hospital in Liberia as a participant in the university’s Deferred Mission Appointment program. The program, developed by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, provides financial support to medical and dental students committed to overseas mission service.

The massive Seventh-day Adventist Pathfinder Camporee has begun here in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, which plays host to an event bringing 44,000 people from across the United States, Canada and Bermuda, and an additional 2,000 people from more than 50 other countries.
The Seventh-day Adventist Church in North Colombia recently launched its online radio and television stations during a special ceremony from its new studios in Medellin, Colombia. The event, held last month, marked a historic accomplishment for the 167,000-strong membership in the region, church leaders said. The church now has its first official Adventist web-based radio station—Esperanza Colombia Radio in Colombia, as well as the first online Esperanza Colombia TV channel.
It is with great sadness and deep concern that we have learned of the tragic situation where tens of thousands of Christians and others have been subjected to persecution, coercion, killings, intimidation and lack of religious liberty in certain areas of Iraq and Syria. I urgently call upon all Seventh-day Adventist Church members around the world to pray for the victims of this extremism in religious intolerance. We also need to pray for various religious minorities who are targeted because of their religious convictions and beliefs.

Inspiring and challenging Adventist Youth with the message that they are a powerful generation in Jesus was at the heart of Inter-America’s Youth Congress last week, held in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Some 6,300 young people from across Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, the French Antilles, Colombia and Venezuela entered the Ciudad San Cristobal Mega Auditorium for five-day days of seminars, presentations, and activities, to participate in the largest Inter-American Division (IAD) territory-wide youth congress.
The estate of Seventh-day Adventist Church co-founder Ellen G. White is scheduled for an eight-month remodeling project that will offer an enhanced visitor center. Starting August 15, the Ellen G. White Estate will be unavailable for tours and research at its location on the lower level at the Adventist Church’s world headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, United States. The estate is scheduled to reopen in mid-April.
Seventh-day Adventist Church leaders and support staff at the denomination’s headquarters are gearing up for next year’s 60th General Conference Session, a 10-day global spiritual gathering and business meeting. Preparations for Session, which in recent decades has been held every five years, invariably involve fielding a frequently asked question: “Why does is seem like Session is always held in the United States?” The short answer: because it usually is.
